A breif history about Dr.Sudha Raja
Dr. Sudha started learning Carnatic Vocal from the age of five and continuously for twenty eight years subsequently under the eminent musicologist Smt. Sulochana Pattabhiraman. She did her Masters and M.Phil in Music from Mother Teresa University with distinction followed by a Doctorate in Indian Music, from the Madras University with a State Government Scholarship to pursue the research. Dr.Sudha Raja has worked as a Music Expert and trainer at Calibre Mrs. YGP School, Vruksha Montessori School and Kids' Central, Chennai. She has been a Music Specialist and trainer at Vedavalli Vidyalaya, Ranipet and Wallajah and Vidya Vanam School for tribal children in Anaikkatti, Coimbatore. She has also worked as an in-house Music Expert in Guru Vempatti Chinnasatyam’s Kuchipudi Art Academy, Chennai apart from her choral groups Akshayam and Sargam. Apart from these, she has also regularly trained hundreds of young students in Carnatic Music.
Being a resource person for NCERT (National Council of Educational Research and Training), SCERT (State Council for Educational Research and Training) and CCRT (Centre for Cultural Resources and Training - Human Resources Dept. Govt. Of India), Dr. Sudha Raja has presented numerous papers in State and National Level seminars on Music, Tamizh and Art. She presented papers at the International Seminars in Jammu and BHU in the year 2012 on Music. She has also presented Papers in Kalaikaveri International Seminar 2009, Madras University International Seminar 2010, Tamizh Ayya University, Tanjavur Tamizh University, Madurai University, and thrice successively in Annamalai University’s UGC Seminar on Music and Dance in 2008, 2009 and 2010.She has also done Lecture-Demonstrations during the December Music season for Carnatica in 2009, and in the Indian Fine Arts Society for the past four years, consecutively.
Dr. Sudha Raja is a graded artiste of the All India Radio, Chennai for Carnatic and Devotional Music. She has sung as the lead Vocalist for all the leading dancers like Anita Rathnam, Shobha Natrajan, Disciples of Kalanidhi Narayanan, Disciples of Savitri Jagannatha Rao, Disciples of Thanjavur Rajalakshmi, Usha Vasantkumar and for all productions of Venniradai Nirmala, for more than ten years. She has also released more than ten CDs of individual and group performances, which are available online. The titles being Jyothiswaroopini, Rare Krtis of Shyama Sastri, Pancharathna Krithis of Thyagaraja, Natya Manjari, Thillana Charithram Vol. 1&2, Natya Sudha, Maathru Vandhanam, Kummi Kolaattam, Carnival of folk (along with Vidvan Rajkumar Bharathi). She was recently featured in a short film titled 'Harmonyium'. Having judged many state and national level competitions and is a regular contributor to many magazines and news papers.

About Sargam The Sargam choir group for kids was started in 2011, as an offshoot of 'Sarega' Choir for children, by Ms. Rangashree Srinivas and Dr. Sudha Raja. In the beginning 'Sargam' was started in batches to facilitate the influx of new children into the group, but 'Sargam' soon swell to 75 in number.
